  • Ontario Prohibits Gatherings of More Than Five People with Strict Exceptions

Stronger action required to stop the spread of COVID-19

March 28, 2020 9:15 P.M.

Office of the Premier

TORONTO — Today, the Ontario government is taking immediate and decisive action to further stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and well-being of all Ontarians.

Based on the best advice of Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Ontario government is issuing a new emergency order under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act to prohibit organized public events and social gatherings of more than five people, effective immediately.

This order would not apply to private households with five people or more. It would also not apply to operating childcare centres supporting frontline health care workers and first responders provided the number of persons at each centre does not exceed 50 people. Funerals would be permitted to proceed with up to 10 people at one time.

New Restrictions for use of the Bonfield Landfill Site: From the Public Works Manager

Effective April 01st, 2020 the Township of Bonfield’s Landfill site will allow 5 vehicles at a time into the landfill to meet the regulations that recently have been released by the Provincial Government.  To accommodate the traffic flow, we will also be open on Wednesdays from 4p.m. to 7 p.m.  Please be mindful of how much time you are at the landfill in order for traffic to remain at a good pace.  The landfill attendant will stop you at the attendant “Shack” and will signal you to enter once a vehicle has left.

While waiting to access the Landfill BY NO MEANS ARE YOU TO EXIT YOUR VEHICLE. Remain in your vehicle until it is your turn to empty your garbage or recycling.   ABSOLUTELY no garbage is to be removed from the landfill.  Thank you in advance for your patience as we practice physical distancing and work together to keep our landfill open

Message from Mayor McLaren regarding “Municipal facilities in Bonfield”

Just a reminder that until the emergency declaration is lifted all municipal parks and recreational areas are strictly off-limits and are closed. Additionally, everyone is strongly urged to practice physical distancing.

Quarantine vs Self- Isolation:

i) Quarantine: This is a medical term and is usually issued as a medical directive to people who have exhibited symptoms of COVID– 19 or because of recent travel or exposure may have COVID- 19. The municipality does not have authority to order quarantine for any of its residents. The Province of Ontario or our community doctor does. The recent declaration of the Quarantine Act

ii) by the Federal Government requires that anyone arriving from overseas must undertake and practice a mandatory 14-day quarantine.

People who are directed by the Provincial or Federal government or a medical practitioner to quarantine themselves should not leave their home during those 14 days for any reason. They should request a

Family member to pick up groceries and other essentials on their behalf and deliver them to their home

iii) Self- Isolation: This is usually a practice undertaken voluntarily by individual citizens. They are not necessarily feeling ill but may believe they may have been exposed to the virus and are therefore placing themselves voluntarily under 14- day self isolation. This means that they will only leave their home periodically for a quick visit to the grocery store, pharmacy etc. They should do this errand by themselves and not with other family members.

Your community doctor, may as a result of interviewing you, suggest that you voluntarily self isolate yourself for 14 days.
