Provincial Appointee Vacancies (2)


The North Bay O.P.P. Detachment - Board 2, which consists of the Township of Bonfield, Township of Chisholm and the Municipality of East Ferris, is seeking residents from the Board’s catchment area who are interested in making a positive impact in the community to serve as Provincial Appointees to the O.P.P. Detachment Board.


The purpose of the O.P.P Detachment Board is to advise the Ontario Provincial Police detachment commander assigned to the detachment, with respect to O.P.P. services in the catchment area of the Board. 


The Board consists of one Council member each from the Township of Bonfield, the Township of Chisholm and the Municipality of East Ferris, four community representatives, and two provincial appointees.


Appointees to the O.P.P. Detachment Board should be active members of the community with a general knowledge of O.P.P. Detachment Board duties and responsibilities and awareness of community safety issues and programs within their local community.
In order to qualify as a Provincial Appointee, appointed by the Solicitor General, individuals must be residents of Ontario and cannot be a judge, justice of the peace, a member (past or present) of the OPP, a current member of any other police service in Ontario, a former member of any other police service in Ontario unless they have ceased to be a member for at least one year, a special constable or a First Nation Officer, a person who practises criminal law as a defence counsel or as a prosecutor, a director, officer or employee of a prescribed policing provider or any other prescribed persons.


The term of office for a member of an O.P.P. Detachment Board that is appointed by the Minister shall be set out by the Minister in the member’s appointment.


The O.P.P Detachment Board will meet a minimum of four times per year, as required by the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019.
